Everything is Fine // All Time Low
Okay, a little disclaimer before I start this. All Time Low is absolutely my favorite band, and I have traveled the world for them (literally). I flew to London to see them, I skipped a day of my college orientation to go to a signing in Boston, I’ve seen them in Chicago and Milwaukee, I’m flying to California Warped Tour for them, braving Lollapalooza for their set, and driving to Indiana for leg one of their upcoming tour. My horse is named Alex, my phone case says Gaskarth, and my room is covered in All Time Low posters and flags. Despite all that, I’m going to put my personal bias towards the greatest band aside and write an honest review.
After a couple days of teasing, All Time Low dropped a new single, “Everything Is Fine.” I wish I could say I loved this song, and I keep listening to it hoping I’ll change my mind, but I just can’t. The chorus is good for a single. The guitars are fun, the beat is great, the melody is catchy, and the vocals are impeccable. Like I said, it’s a great chorus for a single. It’s not deep and meaningful, but it’s fun and the crowd will go crazy singing along when played live.
But, the verses just don’t do it for me. There’s a lot going on instrumentally, and I just can’t get behind the production they put on Alex Gaskarth’s vocals. He has such a great voice, I don’t understand why you would want to mess with it.
Listen, the song is a banger and it definitely is catchy. It’s going to be one of those songs they have fun playing live and the crowd can enjoy. I just had high hopes for them, and it’s just not the best they’ve ever produced. On the flip side, I don’t think this is any indication of what the next album they release will sound like. “Take Cover” didn’t sound anything like Last Young Renegade, so I really don’t put much emphasis on the sound of “Everything Is Fine” leading into a new era of All Time Low music.
All that aside, All Time Low is still the greatest band I can think of, and I can’t wait to see them live for the 10th time at Warped Tour in a little over a week!
