It's Hard to Be Religious When... // Mayday Parade (6/1/18)
Before I even start the review on Mayday Parade’s third single for upcoming album “Sunnyland,” I want to just take a second to appreciate the name. When the track list for the album was released, I had decided that “It’s Hard To Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Bolts Of Lightning” was going to be my favorite song. Yesterday, that same song was released with a music video on Billboard, and I was so excited just because of the name.
Mayday Parade didn’t disappoint. In comparison to the other two singles previously released, It’s Hard To Be Religious is much angrier, with more emphasis on heavier drums and guitar riffs. There’s no buildup or anticipation, the song just immediately starts at full force. The first verse is a bit wordy and lacks flow, but that fixes itself once the chorus sets in. While the song is angry in nature, there is an underlying optimistic message that lead singer Derek Sanders conveys through the lyrics of the song.
Sunnyland is set to be released on June 15th, and so far, the band has shown three different sides of themselves through each of the singles. Listen to It’s Hard To Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Bolts Of Lightning now, and preorder Sunnyland!
